The epicenter was placed off the North Shore communities of Kenilworth, Wilmette, Winnetka and Evanston. The minor earthquake could be felt all the way to Madison, Wis., about 114 miles from Chicago.

Did you feel it? The USGS is asking for people to fill out a quick survey as part of its research. The survey asks questions about whether you were in a vehicle, a building, outside, or sleeping, and if you noticed lamps or other fixtures swinging, and the intensity of the shaking.
