Cook County sheriff's investigators used security footage from the Chicago store to identify a suspect, who was later arrested after being spotted outside the same location.
2. Phone Scammers Impersonating Cook County Sheriff's Office, Agency Warns (patch.com) — Chicago-area residents are being warned about phone scammers posing as Cook County Sheriff's Office personnel and demanding citation payments. Officials stress they never call to collect money or announce warrants, and urge people to verify any supposed law enforcement contact using official phone numbers instead of those provided by callers.
3. SUV crashes into South Side gas station, ATM stolen: CPD (abc7chicago.com) — Chicago police are investigating an early-morning crash-and-grab at a Mobil station at 63rd and Halsted in Englewood, where thieves rammed a red SUV into the building and stole the ATM before fleeing in another vehicle. No injuries were reported, but the storefront suffered heavy damage as Area One detectives continue their investigation.
4. New quantum computing facility in South Chicago expected to have economic impact in Illinois (cbsnews.com) — A massive new quantum computing campus is coming to the former U.S. Steel South Works site in South Chicago, backed by $500 million in state funding and an expected 1,000 permanent jobs. Leaders say the project will prioritize local hiring, apprenticeships for Chicago community-college grads, and environmentally conscious design, aiming to make Chicago a national hub for quantum research and industry growth.
