Blagojevich Rejected Again By Appeals Court

The former governor could still reach out to his former "Celebrity Apprentice" host, now-President Donald Trump.

CHICAGO, IL — A federal appeals court once again refused to reconsider disgraced Gov. Rod Blagojevich's 2011 conviction, saying it won't hear any further appeals in the case. The decision on Monday set Blagojevich up for a final appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court and, failing that, a possible request for a commutation or pardon to President Donald Trump.

The former governor was convicted of attempting to "sell" then-President Barack Obama's Senate seat to the and was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 2011. Although a judge in 2015 overturned five of his 18 convictions, Blagojevich's sentence remained the same, and he's not expected to be released until 2024.

Blagojevich was famously heard on a federal wiretap peppered with profane comments as he discussed the appointment he could make and what he could get in exchange. "I've got this thing and it's f---ing golden," he said on the now-infamous recording. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for Chicago — or other neighborhoods. Last year, his appeal to outgoing President Obama for a commutation fell on deaf ears. On Monday, judges rejected Blagojevich's request to argue before the full 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The disgraced Democrat has already tried to take his case to the Supreme Court, which failed to hear the case, and his attorneys will likely make another appeal to the nation's highest court, the Tribune reported.

Blagojevich could also reach out to Trump. The two men met back in 2010 when Blagojevich appeared on Trump's reality show, "Celebrity Apprentice."
