The St. Jude Heroes program is looking for volunteers to help support the St. Jude Heroes who will be running the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on behalf of the children and families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. There are three areas where we will need assistance on race weekend: Chicago Marathon Expo, Hospitality Area, and Charity Block Cheer Team.

Join us for a special afternoon poetry reading and Q&amp;A with acclaimed Irish poet Micheal O’Siadhail, who will read from and discuss his latest collection The Essential Poems. O’Siadhail will be joined in conversation by Parneshia Jones, Director for Northwestern University Press.
Books will be available for purchase and O’Siadhail will sign them following the program. Light snacks and refreshments will also be available.About the book:
With an illustrious literary career that has spanned over fifty years, renowned poet Micheal O’Siadhail has cemented his place on the international stage. From his debut collection, The Leap Year (1978), to his latest collection, Desire (2023), O’Siadhail captures evolving struggles with love, faith, and humanity. Here, spanning the entirety of his outstanding career, is the essence of his masterful body of work.
The Essential Poems voyages through traditional and innovative poetic forms, investigating love and passion, joy and loss, world-shaping events and personal experiences. O’Siadhail sounds the depths of meaning and evokes wonder, surprise, anguish, and delight. A lyrical meditation on the relationships between humanity and nature, despair and faith, and the richness of courage in the acts of healing completes what proves to be this unforgettable and necessary collection of the inimitable Irish poet.
MICHEAL O’SIADHAIL was born in Dublin in 1947. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Oslo. A full-time writer, he has published eighteen collections of poetry, receiving numerous awards, including the Marten Toonder Prize for Literature and the Irish American Cultural Institute prize for poetry. He has been a lecturer at Trinity College Dublin and a professor at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and is still writing poetry, splitting his time between New York City and Dublin.
PARNESHIA JONES serves as Director for Northwestern University Press. Her acquisitions have garnered some of the highest literary honors, including the National Book Award, the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, Hurston/Wright Legacy Awards, NAACP Image Awards, and the LA Times Book Award, and have been finalists for the Pulitzer Prize.
The author of Vessel: Poems (Milkweed Editions, 2015), winner of the Midwest Book Award and featured as one of “12 Books to Savor” by O, The Oprah Magazine, Parneshia has been honored with the Adam Morgan Literary Leadership Award, the Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Award, the Margaret Walker Short Story Award, and the Aquarius Press Legacy Award. Named one of the “25 Writers to Watch” by the Guild Complex and one of “Lit 50: Who Really Books in Chicago” by Newcity Magazine, her work has appeared in anthologies including She Walks in Beauty: A Woman’s Journey Through Poems and The Ringing Ear: Black Poets Lean South. She has been featured on PBS Newshour, the Academy of American Poets, espnW, and an international poetry exchange in Seoul, South Korea, and sponsored by DreamYard.

Spirits
&amp; Spirits is a theatrical cocktail experience where every
drink unlocks a story. Your host — the mysterious Collector
— has spent a lifetime seeking out the dark corners of history,
where myths are born and legends refuse to die. Over the course of
the night, the Collector releases spirits from five strange and
wicked bottles, each revealing a tale and the cocktail that is paired
to it. Your journey begins in fog-drenched Venetian canals, where
romance and dread intertwine, before drawing you to a candlelit
Victorian séance parlor where the veil grows thin. From there,
the path darkens: a demon-haunted crossroads in Mexico, then deep
into the shadowed catacombs that once inspired Poe. The experience
ends around a campfire among friends… where darkness waits just
beyond the circle of light. Each bottle reveals a new tale, a new
atmosphere, and a handcrafted drink rooted fully in its world.
 Spirits &amp; Spirits is romantic. It’s darkly funny.

Violinist Sarah Kim has performed extensively as a chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. As a resident artist at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music from 2008-2013, Sarah performed with the Apple Hill String Quartet and co-directed sessions in Apple Hill’s Summer Chamber Music Workshop. Through Apple Hill’s innovative Playing for Peace program, Sarah performed and taught chamber music workshops in major conflict areas of the world, including Israel/Palestine, Cyprus, and Ireland. From 2017-2023, Sarah was a Resident Musician with Community MusicWorks, a nationally recognized community-based music performance and education program. In addition to her work at CMW, Sarah taught at the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and from 2021-2023, Sarah taught violin and chamber music as a Teaching Associate at Brown University. Currently, Sarah teaches violin, viola, and chamber music at Loyola University Chicago and performs with Crossing Borders Music, a string quartet-based ensemble whose mission is to share the stories and music of suppressed and underrepresented people groups. During the summers, Sarah is on the faculty of Kinhaven Senior Session where she also serves as the Strings Coordinator. Sarah has received degrees from Indiana University, Yale School of Music, and Stony Brook University, where her principal teachers were Josef Gingold, Miriam Fried, Peter Oundjian, Pamela Frank, and Phil Setzer.Eugenia Jeong is a distinguished pianist who has performed across North America, Europe, and Asia, with appearances at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, Seattle’s Benaroya Hall, the Banff Centre, and the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, as well as in India, Israel, and South Korea. She is a top prizewinner of numerous competitions, including the Musicians Club of Women’s Nerenburg Award, the Frances Walton Competition, YoungArts Competition, Thaviu-Isaak Piano Competition, Pauline Lindsey Piano Competition, MTNA Young Artist Competition, and has been featured on WFMT and Classical KING-FM 98.1.Jeong holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University under James Giles, and a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music under Nelita True. Her artistic projects blend creativity and truth, including From Both Sides, a multimedia concert presented by UChicago Presents. She has recorded works by Florence Price with Grammy-nominated artist Michael Hawes, served on the board of New Music Chicago, and previously served as Director of Piano Studies at the University of Chicago for five academic years. She is currently Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Piano Studies at North Park University.
