The 34-year-old nurse is accused of buying what she thought were illegal drugs from an undercover cop for her boyfriend in Cook County Jail

CHICAGO — A 34-year-old nurse was arrested after buying what she believed to be illegal drugs from an undercover cop to give to a detainee in Cook County Jail, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Joann McCree, of the 8800 block of South Loomis Street, Chicago, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a substance with intent to deliver. Her bond was set at $75,000 during her court appearance on Jan. 8.
Investigators from the sheriff’s police received a tip on Jan. 7 from the strategic intelligence unit that McCree was planning to bring narcotics to a man she was dating who is currently incarcerated in Cook County Jail, police said.

An undercover officer contacted McCree that same day posing as a dealer, and police said the two discussed where to meet. McCree was taken into custody at her workplace after police said she met the investigator at the pre-determined location, and the investigator gave her an envelope containing what she believed were illegal drugs.
McCree told investigators that she became romantically involved with the detainee while he was being treated in the hospital where she worked, sheriff’s police said.
