Chicago Taxi Passenger Killed In Crash By SUV Fleeing Police

1 dead, 3 injured and 3 in custody after an SUV fleeing police hit a taxi and pedestrians.

CHICAGO, IL — Officials are investigating after they say a female taxi passenger was killed and three other people were injured when a person driving from police caused a crash in River North Wednesday night. NBC Chicago reported that just before 11 p.m. officers tried to pull over a white Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven at high speed that had failed to stop in the 500 block of North State St. before turning right onto Grand Avenue, according to police, adding the SUV had been reported stolen.

Officials said the person driving the Jeep ran a red light with two other adult passengers inside at North Dearborn and hit the taxi headed northbound through a West Grand Avenue intersection.

According to police, a 66-year-old woman riding in the taxi was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, and the 64-year-old male cab driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and is in good condition, NBC reported.
