Chicago Teachers Union OK's 4-Year Contract
More than 70 percent of the union's members approved the new deal with the city Tuesday night.

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Teachers Union approved a new contract Tueday between educators and the city with more than 70 percent of the members signing off on it, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Approval by members follows the recommendation of the four-year contract by union's House of Delegates in October. The new deal was approved by 72 percent of the union's more than 20,000 members, and 28 percent voted not to accept it, the report added. Votes from about 60 schools still need to be tallied, according to the report.
The contract now must be approved by the school board, the report stated. That vote is expected Dec. 7, when the board approves a revised budget for Chicago Public Schools, the report added.
