But first, today's weather:

Humid with a thundershower. High: 83 Low: 69.

Here are the top three stories today in Chicago:

  1. An inmate at the Cook County Jail was beaten to death on Tuesday by a fellow inmate, according to police. Security personnel responded to a commotion and discovered one inmate assaulting another—staff immediately separated the individuals and took inmate Johnny Hendrix to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing. (CBS Chicago)
  2. Poor air quality in the Chicago area this week was caused by fog, not wildfire smoke, experts say. The National Weather Service confirmed a dense fog advisory for nearly the entire Chicago area, as residents experienced limited visibility and murky air which impacted roadway visibility. Poor air quality is expected to continue for the next few days. (NBC Chicago)
  3. The Special Olympics dumped 100,000 ducks into the Chicago River for its annual Chicago Ducky Derby yesterday. Residents had the opportunity to "adopt" a duck for $5, with all proceeds going to the Special Olympics. The rubber ducks splashed down the river from the Columbus Drive Bridge and raced to the finish line near Michigan Ave. (PR Newswire)
