Cooler Temps, Thunderstorms in Forecast This Week for Chicago Area

Much more comfortable weather, with lower temperatures and less humidity, will be in the forecast for the start of the work week in the Chicago area.

Sunny skies and temperatures reaching a high in the upper 70s are expected for Monday while mostly sunny skies and temps in the lower 80s are in the forecast for Tuesday.

Monday and Tuesday are also expected to be clear of any rain but showers and thunderstorms could roll in Tuesday night, with a 30 percent chance of stormy weather after midnight, and mostly cloudy skies and thunderstorms and showers are likely through the day Wednesday. It will be much of the same Wednesday night.

There is also a 40 percent chance for thunderstorms and showers on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Here is a more detailed look at the week ahead:

• Monday: Sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Monday Night: Clear. Lows in the lower 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
• Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the upper 60s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
• Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs in the lower 80s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
• Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows around 70. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
• Thursday: Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 80s.
• Thursday Night Through Saturday: Partly cloudy. Lows around 60 in the suburbs...but in the mid 60s downtown. Highs in the upper 70s.
