Cooler Temps, Thunderstorms on Tap for Weekend
A much cooler Friday followed by temps in the 80s Saturday and Sunday. Thunderstorms are possible Sunday.

A slight break from the extreme heat and a chance of a few thunderstorms are on the horizon for this weekend’s weather in the Chicago area.
On Friday, a cold front pushed through the region, bringing cooler temperatures, especially along the lakefront where north to northeast winds will keep temperatures near 70 degrees. Farther inland, expect mid to upper 70s for highs, according to the National Weather Service.

Cool temperatures will continue Friday night with a gradual warm-up expected through the weekend and into early next week. There will be a few chances for thunderstorms Sunday into Monday with the best chance for storms expected Sunday night.
- FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers. Highs in the lower 70s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph in the morning becoming north in the afternoon.
- FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 50s in the suburbs but in the lower 60s downtown Chicago. North winds 5 to 10 mph.
- SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs around 80. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
- SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 60s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.
- SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.
- SUNDAY NIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows in the lower 70s. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
- MONDAY: Partly sunny with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s.
