Dense Fog Could Cause Hazardous Driving Conditions for Chicago Area

Be sure to slow down and take your time when driving this morning. A dense fog advisory is in effect through 9 a.m.

A dense fog advisory is in effect through 9 a.m. for counties throughout the Chicago area.

Visibility will be reduced to ¼-mile or less at times for those in the advisory area, which includes Lake, McHenry, Kendall, Kane, DuPage, Cook and Will counties, according to the National Weather Service. Areas of low visibility and rapid changes in visibility will cause hazardous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service provides these tips on its Facebook page for those driving in the fog this morning:

  • If you have road travel plans, use plenty of extra caution and be prepared to encounter rapidly changing visibility
  • Allow additional time to reach your destination
  • Use low beams, reduce speed, and give extra distance between your vehicle and other vehicles.

The fog is expected to lift by mid-morning. Partly cloudy skies are expected for the rest of the day and spring-like temperatures reaching highs between 68 and 74 degrees are expected today.
