Donald Trump Considers Cubs Co-Owner Todd Ricketts for Commerce Department Post

The president-elect has spoken with Ricketts about becoming deputy commerce secretary in the new administration.

CHICAGO, IL — Apparently, the World Series is not enough for Chicago Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts. The brother of team chairman and fellow owner Tom Ricketts is being eyed by President-elect Donald Trump to join his administration as deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Ricketts, 47, met with Trump and his vice president-elect, Mike Pence, this past weekend, the report stated. Sources did not know if Ricketts was formally offered the position, the report added.

Although he had originally financially backed Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker during the Republican presidential primaries, Ricketts, 47, later aligned himself with Trump, donating money to outside organizations that supported the newly elected president, according to the report.

Relations between Trump and the extended Ricketts clan haven't always been cordial, however. Earlier this year, Trump lashed out against the family after Joe and Marlene Ricketts, Todd and Tom's parents, donated $5 million to a conservative Super PAC that took out ads denouncing the president-elect's candidacy.

But any bad blood between Trump and the Ricketts disappeared in September when Joe Ricketts, through a political strategist, said the family "could not sit back and watch Hillary Clinton become the next president of the United States."
