Illinois and Cook County Election Results: Duckworth, Foxx Claim Victories; Safe Roads Amendment Passes

ELECTION 2016: Voters also overwhelmingly support earned sick time referendum Tuesday.

CHICAGO, IL — While the U.S. presidential election brought out most voters Tuesday, there were also important state and county races and issues on the November ballot for 2016.

Many voters were greeted by long lines when they arrived at their voting precincts. Chicago election officials were expecting a record turnout at the polls this year. The city and Cook County suburbs already had seen big numbers for early voting.

Here are the races and referenda on Tuesday's ballot. Polls closed at 7 p.m., and Patch will update results as they come in:
