Escaped Cook County Jail Detainee Who Wore Mask Captured: Sheriff
Jahquez Scott, 21, who walked out of Cook County using another inmate's identity was captured after several days on the lam, sheriff said.

CHICAGO, IL — A 21-year-old detainee who walked out of Cook County Jail wearing a mask and using another inmate’s identity has been captured, the sheriff’s office announced. Jahquez Scott appeared Monday for a bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building where he was charged with felony escape.
Scott was apprehended around 8 a.m. May 9 by Cook County Sheriff’s police with assistance from the FBI. Sheriff’s police said Scott was found in the bedroom of a residence in the 3600 block of West Augusta Boulevard in Chicago.

Upon his arrest, Scott allegedly told sheriff’s police that he offered to pay $500 to another detainee, Quinton Henderson, 28, who was due to be released May 2 on an I-bond. Scott used Henderson’s personal information and was able to walk of out of the jail with a surgical mask covering his face, sheriff’s police said. Jail officials said they did not realize that Scott had escaped until they tried processing Henderson’s paperwork for his release.
Scott was being held on $50,000 bail on an original charge of unlawful use of a firearm.

The FBI offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to Scott’s arrest and conviction. It’s not known if anyone collected the reward. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony escape charges on May 10.
