1) Hammer-wielding man shouting homophobic slurs smashes glass door of Rogers Park bar. An investigation is underway into a possible hate crime after police said a man yelled homophobic slurs and smashed the glass door of R Public House in Rogers Park Monday evening. The owner and her wife said the incident began at about 5:40 p.m., when the man threatened a man and woman entering the bar and restaurant. (ABC 7)

2) Parents of Lily Shambrook suing city, ComEd, after 3-year-old killed in bike crash last year. Shambrook was killed in an accident in Uptown last June when the bike collided with a semi-truck. The 10-count lawsuit, filed in Cook County, alleges negligence against the truck driver and its owners, and ComEd, which owned a truck parked in the bike lane. The suit also alleges misconduct by the city of Chicago, claiming it did not do enough to prevent the tragedy. (CBS Chicago)

3) Warren introduced as Bears president with focus on future, winning. Kevin Warren, who served as the Big Ten Conference commissioner since 2019, was formally introduced as the Bears' new President and CEO yesterday. Though he doesn't officially start his new role until April, he said his top priorities include getting a new stadium built, increasing the value of the franchise and winning championships. 4) Overhaul of bank buildings at Damen and Lincoln would create stores and 258 apartments. Here's how neighbors can weigh in. Developer Ravine Park Partners wants to renovate an existing bank building and construct a new eight-story building near the busy three-way intersection of Damen and Lincoln Avenues and Irving Park Road. The two properties would require a zoning change, plus a sign-off from Ald. Matt Martin (47th) and other city panels to move forward. Neighbors can join an open house and a community meeting on January 25 to learn more. (Block Club Chicago)

5) 3,000-year-old sword once believed to be a replica on display at Field Museum. The three-foot-long sword, originally catalogued at the Field Museum as a replica, has turned out to be the real deal. The bronze sword dates back 3,000 years to the "Bronze Era" and was pulled from the Danube River in Budapest in 1920. Field bought the sword from the Hungarian National Museum soon after it was discovered. It will be displayed at the entrance to the Field's upcoming exhibit, "First Kings of Europe," which will transport visitors back 5,000 years. (Chicago Sun-Times)
