Flights Delayed At O’Hare As Storms Headed To IL
50 mph gusts, small hail, lighting and brief downpours are possible with the storms, the weather service said.
ILLINOIS —Arriving flights to O'Hare Airport are facing delays Wednesday afternoon, as thunderstorms approach the Chicago area, according to the FAA. Small hail and winds up to 50 mph are possible Wednesday afternoon into the evening with the approaching storms, the National Weather Service said.
Midway airport was also reporting departure and arrival delays, but said they are expected to be 15 minutes or less.
The weather service issued a special weather statement until 3:45 p.m. Wednesday for Kane, Grundy, Will, Cook, DuPage and Kendall counties as radar tracked strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Elburn to Oswego to Ingalls Park to Manteno.

The weather service said on its Twitter that gusts, small hail, lighting and brief downpours are possible with the storms. Wind gusts could also cause minor tree limb damage.
The main threat area is west of a line from Pontiac to McHenry, according to the weather service.
