Friday’s ‘Heat’ Could Break 137-Year Record for Chicago

​Temps in the 60s are expected through Monday for Chicagoland.

It’s going to feel much more like spring than winter this weekend in the Chicago area.

Record high temperatures are in the forecast Friday, and those above-normal temps are expected to continue into next week, according to the National Weather Service.

On Friday, high temps between 57 and 64 degrees are expected across Chicagoland, according to the National Weather Service. The prior highest temp set for this date for Chicago was back in 1880 when temps hit 60 degrees.

On Saturday, high temps between 53 and 62 degrees are in the forecast, and on Sunday, high temps between 48 and 65 degrees are expected, according to the National Weather Service. The coolest temps should be along the lake.

Meanwhile, sunny or mostly sunny skies are expected through Sunday.

The warmth will continue on Monday, reaching into the 60s again for some portions of the Chicago area. A weak cold front moves through Monday night into Tuesday morning, which could bring a chance of rain to the area.

Here is more detailed look at the forecast for the coming days:

  • Friday: Sunny. Record breaking warmth likely. Highs in the lower 60s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 50s. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 50s inland...but only in the lower 50s near the lake. Southwest winds around 5 mph in the morning shifting to the southeast in the afternoon.
  • Monday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in the lower 60s inland...but only in the upper 50s near the lake.
