Fun Things To Do This Weekend In Chicagoland: June 9-11

Blues, redheads, log rollers and magic highlight a fun weekend in Chicagoland.

CHICAGO, IL — We are heading into the second weekend of June and as the temperatures get warmer, the fun things to do get more plentiful. It’s already beach season, swimming pools are open and people have already begun hiking the trails and visiting the forest preserves. But here are a handful of events in Chicagoland specific to this weekend.

Chicago Blues Festival 2017 takes shape from Friday through Sunday at Millennium Park in Chicago. The 34th annual fan-favorite event is making its first appearance at Millennium Park after years at nearby Grant Park. Here’s everything you need to know about the festival this year.

‘Redhead Days’ returns for its third year as America’s first festival dedicated to those with red hair. It will take place at Everts Park in north suburban Highwood on Saturday and Sunday. It will feature red-themed cocktails and soft drinks, a Carrot Cake Throwdown and an aerial photograph with the country’s largest gathering of Redheads donned in green.

An award winning magician will perform during a fundraiser for North Shore Congregation Israel at the synagogue in Glencoe at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Ben Seidman, the former resident magician at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, will bring his Las Vegas-style show featuring original magic effects and illusions.Tickets are $100, but the synagogue is offering a reduced rate of $50 for those 30 years and younger. After the show, dubbed “Live From Las Vegas It’s A Magical Night,” there will be a dessert and cocktail reception.

The weekend is filled with “unofficial start of summer” events like the St. Catherine of Alexandria Carnival in Oak Lawn. This year, organizers are touting the “DEEP FRIED OREOS” that will make an appearance at the annual event that marks the start of summer for many residents in the near south suburbs and far southwest neighborhoods of Chicago.

Want the fun to continue past the weekend? There’s a throwback night in Frankfort planned for Monday, June 12. The Frankfort Park District is hosting a “Groovy 70s Party” at Indian Boundary Park that night. This may be the best excuse to dust off the bell-bottoms.
