Heavy Rain, Flooding, Cooler Temps in Forecast This Week

A look at this week's weather forecast.

Heavy rains and flooding is in the forecast for Monday but weather officials are still not clear on which portions of the Chicago area will be hardest hit.

There will be periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms for parts of the area Monday and Monday night and a hazardous weather outlook has been issued for counties throughout the Chicago area. It appears areas south of a line from Pontiac, Ill., to Gary, Ind., will see the heaviest rain and flooding threat with a sharp cutoff in the rain somewhere northwest of that line. The hardest hit areas could see between one to three inches locally for rain but there is continued uncertainty on where the heaviest rainfall will be, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday in the Chicago area and only a 20 percent chance for rain and storms on Wednesday. Thursday is expected to be mostly clear but storms could again return on Friday.
