📰 Top 5 stories in Chicago:

1) Garcia likely to run for mayor after poll shows him beating Lightfoot in two-way race. A poll of 616 likely Chicago voters conducted last week by Public Policy Polling, a Raleigh, N.C. firm that works exclusively for Democrats, found that U.S. Rep. Jesus "Chuy" Garcia would easily defeat Mayor Lori Lightfoot in a runoff, and that he's the only top challenger who'd win a head-to-head match-up.

2) You can now fly to every inhabited continent from Chicago. Chicago is once again one of five cities in the world offering direct air service to every inhabited continent. O'Hare International Airport now offers flights to cities in North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania. The announcement comes after Air New Zealand relaunched its direct service from O'Hare to Auckland Airport.

3) The Hideout to begin hiatus, hopes to reopen in 2023. The popular Bucktown bar and music venue will close for the foreseeable future as owners Tim and Kate Huten and Jim Hichsliff "navigate a situation" involving allegations by a former employee over how he was treated while working for the business. The Hideout will begin its hiatus Nov. 7 and remain closed for the rest of the year.

4) Can Chicago's independent coffee shops bounce back? Cafes cut hours as they struggle. Some cafe owners in Chicago haven't seen their customer base return in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. They're struggling with staffing issues, ingredient shortages and high prices driven by inflation. Some have been forced to reduce hours, raise prices and even close locations to stay in business.

Block Club Chicago

5) Bah, humbug? Chicago radio station's Christmas season begins Tuesday. Ready or not, 93.9 WLIT FM announced on social media that at 4 p.m. today the station will begin playing around-the-clock Christmas music. The Nov. 1 switchover is the earliest ever for the station in its 22 years of playing holiday hits. "Once the ghosts and ghouls are gone, we become Chicago's Christmas music station," afternoon host Mick Lee said.
