Illinois Home To 11 Of The 101 Safest Cities In America
Plus, what SafeHome.org said about Chicago.

CHICAGO, IL — It's often difficult to go a day without learning about a recent crime, especially if something unsafe happened in your community. It's obviously very important to feel safe in your area and home, so the team at SafeHome.org has analyzed FBI data from 13,366 law enforcement agencies over the last decade of cities with populations of at least 50,000 to bring you a list of The top 101 safest cities in America.
SafeHome.org ranked Illinois number 3 as the state as 11 of the safest 101 cities in America. Chicago even made it into the top 500 safest cities in the nation, according to the report.
The team analyzed FBI data that factored in population, violent crimes, property crimes, citizen-to-officer ratio, violent crime trend and property crime trend. Each of these contributed to a city's safety rating.

18 of the top 25 safest cities in the state have a safety rating of 80 or higher. Chicago was rated 72 in the report.

- Safety rating: 90.43
- Population: 53,800
- It has seen a 17.8% drop in violent crime.
- Has a family median income of $113,517, and just like most of the safest cities in other states, SafeHome.org said "the high income level is indicative of the safety rating, as there is a much lower propensity for crime in areas where everyone is financially stable."

The northwest suburbs of Chicago have the highest concentration of cities with high safety ratings. Hoffman Estates (90.16), Palatine (90.17), Arlington Heights (89.96), and Mount Prospect (89.49) are all within commuting distance to Chicago from the northwest.
"Despite the bad rep Chicago may get for a crime, keep in mind that crime is mostly concentrated to very small sections of an expansive city, and there are many safe areas to live in nearby," SafeHome.org said in the report.

- Greenwich, CT was ranked the No. 1 safest city in America.
- Pflugerville, TX was ranked the No. 101 safest city in America.
- New Jersey ranked No. 1 with 18 cities in the top 101 safest cities.
- California was No. 2 with 17 cities of the safest 101 cities in America.
