Top 5 stories in Chicago:
1) Cyclists say city lets drivers park in bike lanes for days, forcing them into dangerous situations. Multiple bicyclists reported a driver parked in a busy Milwaukee Avenue bike lane for days, but all the city did was leave tickets, they said. A new ordinance proposed by Alderman Andre Vasquez (40th) would streamline the process of clearing vehicles from the bike lane by giving the Department of Finance, which issues tickets to vehicles parked in bike lanes, the power to also tow those vehicles.
2) Illinois looks to unload riverfront silos seen in Transformers film. Illinois wants to set a new stage for Chicago's iconic Damen Avenue Silos by selling off the property. The 23.4-acre property that runs along the Chicago river was declared useless in 2005. The silos may look familiar to sci-fi fans, as they were featured in Michael Bay's 2014 film "Transformers: Age of Extinction." Finding a buyer for the Damen Silos is in line with Gov. J.B. Pritzker's broader plan to sell off properties in the state's real estate portfolio that are either too old or too expensive to maintain.
3) White Sox to sign shortstop Elvis Andrus. Elvis Andrus was there for the taking and the White Sox were there with a need. The veteran former All-Star shortstop, released by the cost-cutting Oakland Athletics, cleared waivers and is expected to sign with the Sox and join the team when it opens a three-game series in Cleveland later today. Andrus is in the final season of an eight-year, $120 million contract signed with Texas, but the Sox will owe him the prorated league minimum for the remainder of the season, with the A's responsible for the remainder of his $14 million salary.
4) Body pulled from Lake Michigan is that of missing Chicago man. A body found near northwestern Indiana's Lake Michigan shoreline has been identified as that of a Chicago man who vanished with a friend in late July during a boating trip. The body of Dexter Trendell Sain, 36, was recovered near Whiting Lakefront Park about 200 yards from the shoreline. The Lake County Coroner's office conducted an autopsy and found that Sain had drowned.
5) Artist Jim Bachor is filling Chicago potholes with mosaics of famous paintings. You don't have to visit a museum to see some of the world's most renowned paintings. You just have to look down. Local mosaic artist Jim Bachor is known for filling potholes with small, colorful mosaics. His latest street art series is called "Master pieces," which recreate famous artworks people ordinarily would see at the Art Institute of Chicago.
