Manchester United Star Signs with Chicago Fire

The signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger is called a "historic moment" for the Fire.

BRIDGEVIEW, IL - One of the world's most famous soccer players is coming to Chicago.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has left the Manchester United, the world's most famous football club, for Major League Soccer and the Chicago Fire.

An ESPNFC story indicated Schweinsteiger has been a "longtime target" for the Fire, who haven't won the MLS title since their inaugural season in 1998.

"This is a historic moment for our club," Fire General Manager Nelson Rodriguez said. "We have added one of the greatest champions in all of sports. Bastian's talents, attitude, and character will be a perfect complement to our squad as we continue building a championship program."

Schweinsteiger is a German player who has been on their National team several times since 2000. The midfielder has been with the Manchester United since 2015.

The Fire play their home games at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.
