📰 Top 5 stories in Chicago:
1) Illinois Workers' Rights Amendment approved by voters. The Associated Press reported yesterday the amendment passed after achieving a simple majority of all votes cast in last week's election. The amendment assures workers can unionize and bargain on a range of issues affecting economic welfare and safety. It also forbids right-to-work laws for the private sector, which allow people to avoid union dues as a condition of employment.
2) Lightfoot launches 'Come Home' plan to bring people back to city. Mayor Lori Lightfoot launched the "repopulation phase" of her plan to rebuild 10 commercial corridors on the city's South and West sides. Lightfoot hopes three strategies will spur development on 5,600 city-owned vacant lots to stop what Planning and Development Commissioner Maurice Cox calls "the bleeding of Black and Brown families" leaving Chicago. The first strategy is titled, "Come Home," with the goal to promote construction of single-family homes, townhouses and multiunit buildings on residential blocks near the reviving commercial corridors.
3) Check out inaugural lineup for The Salt Shed's new indoor venue. The Shed, a new entertainment complex housed at the site of the old Morton Salt building, is set to open Feb. 17 with performances by Tove Lo and Slayyyter. The indoor space features multi-level grandstand seating and an L-Acoustics sound system. It will eventually offer food and beverage options. The inaugural 2023 lineup includes performances by Iggy Pop, Flaming Lips, The Roots and more.
4) Head of Wicked Town street gang convicted by federal jury. Gang leader Donald "Lil' Don" Lee, 40, was convicted on racketeering conspiracy, firearm and drug charges for participating in a criminal organization that murdered rivals and violently protected a drug-dealing operation on the West Side of Chicago. The jury also convicted gang member Torance "Blackie" Benson, 30, on racketeering conspiracy and firearm charges. Evidence revealed Wicked Town engaged in numerous acts of violence, including at least 19 murders, 19 attempted murders, several armed robberies and assaults.

5) Upcoming Marvel series 'Ironheart' filmed in Chicago, will be set in city. "Ironheart," slated to premiere on Disney+ in late 2023, will feature actress Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, a native Chicagoan and MIT student who doubles as a superhero and battles alongside fellow Wakandan heroes in the city. Filming for the series took place in Atlanta before moving to Chicago in late October.
