A Mental Health Discussion Integrates the Arts
Community Organizations unite Chicago residents for a powerful mental health panel, creative wellness activities, and community healing.
CHICAGO, IL (July 10, 2026) — On Friday, July 10, The Healing Academy successfully hosted A Mental Health Panel Discussion at the West Pullman Library, bringing together residents, mental health professionals, artists, advocates, youth leaders, and community organizations for an afternoon dedicated to healing, education, and meaningful conversation.
Akin to the The Arsenio Hall Show, the event featured an engaging talk-show atmosphere that encouraged authentic dialogue, audience participation, and moments of laughter, reflection, and inspiration. The interactive format created a welcoming environment where conversations about mental health felt accessible, relatable, and community-centered.
Attendees of all ages participated in a variety of wellness experiences, including sound healing led by Rai Symone, a reflective "Letters to Self" activity, networking, visual art, community resource sharing, and opportunities to connect with counseling services.

The centerpiece of the afternoon was a thought-provoking panel discussion moderated by CJ Shaw El of the Alliance for Moorish-American Progress and Elite Path Consulting, featuring panelists Jasmin Ford of Next Collective Horizon, Obari Cartman of MANifest Wellness LLC., and Dominique Wilson of Mental Health Meets Hip Hop. Together, they explored topics including emotional wellness, trauma, healing practices, self-expression, resilience, and the importance of creating supportive communities where mental health conversations are welcomed without judgment.
Following the panel discussion, audience members participated in an engaging question-and-answer session before hearing from Dr. Paulette R. Eason-Williams of Heuristic Healing, Inc., who shared information about expanding access to quality mental health care and the organization's ongoing work throughout the community.

The event was further strengthened by the presence of several distinguished community leaders and surprise guests, including representatives from REACH and Commander Gregory Jackson of the Chicago Police Department's 5th District. Their participation underscored the importance of collaboration between community organizations, public safety leaders, and mental health advocates in building healthier and safer communities.
The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of The Healing Academy and its community partners, including John W. Buckner Youth Initiative, Mental Health Meets Hip Hop, Our Hands Our Worth, Healthy Place, Community Policing, Elite Path Consulting and the Art Center of Englewood.
"The Healing Academy believes healing happens in community," said event organizers. "By bringing together experts, artists, advocates, and residents in one space, we continue to normalize conversations about mental health while connecting people to resources that support lifelong wellness."
As the afternoon concluded, participants signed up for counseling services, explored community resources, and left with practical tools for supporting their mental well-being and stronger connections to organizations committed to serving Chicago communities.
