Muslim Woman Sues Chicago Police For Wrongful Arrest

The woman says police tackled her and ripped off her hijab on the Fourth of July for no reason.

CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Police Department is being sued once again, this time by a Muslim woman who says six officers detained her without cause and ripped off her hijab at a CTA station in The Loop last year.

Itemid “Angel” Al Matar filed a federal lawsuit against the department, the six officers involved and the city Thursday, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report.

Al Matar claims the officers pointed at her, and when she walked past them rushed her and tackled her to the ground and ripping off her hijab in the process while she was walking up a platform at State and Lake.

An attorney for Al Matar claims she was wrongly accused of being a “lone-wolf suicide bomber,” but she was later found not guilty of resisting arrest and reckless conduct.

Video of the incident, while silent, shows several officers running past other platform users to detain the woman. Several others witnessed the arrest at one of the city’s busiest CTA platforms.
