New Chicago Amazon Store Planned For Loop

The store will sit across from the Thompson Centre.

CHICAGO, IL — A new downtown Amazon store is expected to go up across from the James R. Thompson Center, according to a building permit filed this week. The new store at 203 N La Salle St. will include 625 square feet of retail space and 2,012 square feet for storage, the plans show. The upgrades needed for the space will cost around $325,000, according to the permit.

The work includes updated electrical work, HVAC and plumbing upgrades and an updated layout.

According to several reports, Amazon plans to open up to six more Amazon Go stores in the United States, but has not released their new locations. The first Amazon Go store opened in Seattle, with 1,800 square feet of retail space.

Amazon Go doesn't have any check out lines. Customers just need to download the Amazon Go app, pick out what they want, and leave the store. The app automatically charges your credit card.
