6 More Amazon Go Stores To Open: Report

Amazon's high-tech, cashier-less convenience stores may be coming to other West Coast cities - and more in Seattle.

SEATTLE, WA - The tech news site ReCode is reporting that Amazon plans to open as many as six more Amazon Go stores. Amazon opened its prototype Amazon Go store in Belltown to the public in January.

According to ReCode, Amazon plans to open locations in Los Angeles and at least a second one in Seattle. ReCode reported:

In Los Angeles, Amazon has held serious talks with billionaire developer Rick Caruso about bringing a Go store to The Grove, his 600,000-square-foot outdoor shopping Mecca, two of these people said.
And in Seattle, Amazon had identified at least three locations for additional Go stores as of last year, according to one source.

One possible second Amazon Go location in Seattle is on Capitol Hill.

In 2017, the Capitol Hill Seattle news site reported that Amazon had scoped out a site along East Pike Street for a grocery store. That space is 10,000 square-feet, which is about five times bigger than the Belltown Amazon Go.

Amazon Go, which opened 14 months ago to Amazon employees, doesn't have any check out lines. Customers just need to download the Amazon Go app, pick out what they want, and leave the store. The app automatically charges your credit card.

"Our Just Walk Out Technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When you're done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, we'll send you a receipt and charge your Amazon account," the company described when the store opened in Seattle.
