Michaels Ranter Is a Repeat Offender, New Video Shows

A video shot in July shows the woman who berated a black employee at Michaels reportedly disparaging Boys Town, Chicago's LGBT neighborhood.

CHICAGO, IL — More video has emerged of a former $90,000-a-year human resources executive said to be the same woman who berated a black employee at a Chicago Michaels store on Thanksgiving Eve over a $1 reusable bag and claimed she had been discriminated against for being white.

The new video surfaced Monday night but has since been set to private on YouTube. The video, shot in July, has now been edited onto the end of the Michaels tirade. In it, the woman accuses the floor manager at Peet’s Coffee of calling her a “bitch” and makes references to Boys Town, the LGBT section of Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.

The dispute in the coffee shop appears to center around her alleged mistreatment of another employee and the floor manager coming to the employee’s defense. The woman claims she was “in fear of my life” after being “treated like crap” by a barista, against whom she filed a police report.

After threatening to call the franchise’s corporate office, the woman says: “You think just because you’re in Boys Town that you’re safe? I don’t think so. Corporate’s not in Boys Town … This isn’t your town, it’s Chicago ... I could stereotype you and call you something.”

Before storming out of the coffee shop, she informs the manager that “I’m going back to my $90,000-a-year job” after he tells her he’s calling the police. The Peet's Coffee confrontation starts at the 10:40 mark.

The Chicago woman’s name and workplace were widely circulated on social media on Monday. A Linkedin account belonging to the woman which has since been removed stated that she was a former HR business partner of Sinai Health Systems in Chicago, with her employment ending in “November 2016.” She’s also a Chicago Blackhawks fan.

Sinai Health System issued a statement on its Facebook page saying the Chicago woman’s employment with the company had ended in September.

"Last Wednesday, a customer started yelling at employees and making racial comments in a retail store in the Chicagoland area, and a video of that altercation went viral," Sinai Health System wrote in the post. "We have learned that this customer was a former employee of Sinai, whose employment with us ceased in September. Sinai Health System embraces diversity, inclusion and respect for all people. We condemn and reject any behavior or statements that insult or demean anyone based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or nationality."

A GoFundMe account for the belittled Michaels store manager with an original goal of $400 has now swelled to more than $20,000. The account was started by the customer who recorded the angry shopper’s rant in Michaels.
