CHICAGO — A registered nurse who gave counterfeit Ozempic to three people in Chicago now faces multiple charges, according to federal authorities.

Sharon Christine Sackman, 52, of Playa del Carmen, Mexico, is charged with distributing misbranded drugs and three counts of dispensing counterfeit drugs, authorities said, adding each count is punishable with up to a year in prison. Sackman pleaded not guilty Tuesday, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Despite being a registered professional nurse, Sackman was not licensed to prescribe, administer, dispense or sell Ozempic, authorities said, adding the counterfeits she distributed in 2023 were labeled Ozempic but were not made by Novo Nordisk and did not contain Ozempic’s active ingredient of semaglutide.
