Original Rainbow Cone Opening At Navy Pier Soon

Chicago tourists will have a more convenient way to experience an iconic local ice cream parlor.

CHICAGO, IL — One of Chicago's most iconic places is about to get a little more visibility. The Original Rainbow Cone, a favorite summer destination in the city's Beverly neighborhood since 1926, will open a location at Navy Pier on May 4. The ice cream parlor announced the news on Facebook this week.

Rainbow Cone is celebrating its 92nd year on 92nd Street and Western Avenue in Beverly. Original owner Joseph Sapp opened the ice cream restaurant in an area that was heavily wooded back then. Over the last 92 years, the 92nd and Western corridor has gradually become flooded with commercial businesses.

The Navy Pier location will no doubt make it more convenient for Chicago tourists to taste the phenomenon for themselves. But for the true experience, it's still a good idea to hit up the spot on 92nd.
