Chicago, IL - A professional baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates has been accused of rape by a woman he met on a dating app.

Chicago Police are investigating a sexual assault allegation involving Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang when his team was in Chicago to play the Cubs last month, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police said the victim - a 23-year-old Chicago woman - met Kang through the Bumble dating app and was invited to his hotel room on the Magnificent Mile on June 17 after the Pirates lost a day game to the Cubs.

The woman remembers being served an alcoholic drink, blacking out for 15-20 minutes and then going in and out of consciousness while Kang sexually assaulted her, according to police. She fully awakened when she was in a taxi and on her way home, police said.

Both the Pirates and Major League Baseball issued statements that they are aware of the investigation.
"We take allegations of this type extremely seriously,” Pirates President Frank Coonelly said in part.
