Record Warmth Possible for Chicago Area: Week Ahead Weather

Record warmth is in the forecast for Monday as temperatures are expected to tip well into the 80s for the Chicago area.

The record high for Oct. 17 for Chicago was set in 1950 when temps reached 86 degrees. Highs between 79 and 87 degrees are expected for Monday for the Chicago area. Strong southeast winds between 30 to 35 mph are also in the forecast.

The warmth will continue on Tuesday with temps in the mid-70s with mostly clear skies, according to the National Weather Service. Then, temps are expected to drop off with highs in the mid-60s on Wednesday, lower-60s on Thursday and near 60 for Friday through Sunday.

There is also a chance for rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

• Monday Night: Partly cloudy. Breezy. Lows in the upper 60s. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
• Tuesday: Partly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Highs in the mid 70s. West winds 10 to 20 mph.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the lower 50s. Northwest winds around 5 mph.
• Wednesday: Partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of light rain. Highs in the mid 60s.
• Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of light rain. Lows in the lower 50s.
• Thursday: Partly sunny. Chance of light rain in the morning... Then a chance of showers in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 60s. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
• Thursday Night Through Sunday: Partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 40s. Highs near 60.
