Red Flag Warning Issued for Chicago Area

High wind gusts and warm temperatures have prompted weather officials to issue a red flag warning through 7 p.m. tonight

A red flag warning has been issued for parts of northeastern Illinois until 7 p.m. tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The warning is currently in effect for Kane, DuPage, Will, Cook and Kendall counties.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts between 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts as high as 35 mph possible.
