1) Human remains found in water near DuSable Lake Shore Drive. At about 12:15 p.m. yesterday, the Chicago Police Department's Marine Unit recovered human remains from Lake Michigan in the 0-100 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Information on the person's identity or whether foul play is suspected has not been released. Area Three detectives are investigating. (CBS Chicago)
2) Colorado will halt busing of migrants to Chicago, New York City after conversation with cities' mayors. Mayor Lori Lightfoot and New York City Mayor Eric Adams previously warned in an open letter to Colorado Gov. Jared Polis that local governments were struggling to handle the constant influx of migrant arrivals. Following a conversation Saturday with the mayors, Polis said no other buses were due to arrive in Chicago. (CNN)
3) Developer unveils 'reimagined' domed Soldier Field in 'Hail Mary' bid to keep Bears in Chicago. Landmark Development released a six-minute video yesterday of a "reimagined" Soldier Field, with expanded seating, premium club lounges, food halls, a dome over the existing structure and an adjacent concert venue. The proposed $2.2 billion renovation is an alternative to constructing a new stadium in the northwest suburbs. (Chicago Tribune)
4) Pastor who founded one of the largest African American churches in Illinois retires. The Rev. James Meeks retired yesterday as senior pastor of Salem Baptist Church of Chicago. It was on the 38th anniversary since he founded the church—now the largest African American church in the state. The Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly, Ald. Anthony Beale (9th), former Ald. Bob Fioretti and Mayor Lori Lightfoot were in attendance. (Chicago Sun-Times)
5) Chicago Bears get No. 1 overall draft pick for first time in more than 75 years. After its 29-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the team's season finale yesterday, Chicago will now have the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft—the first since 1947 when the Bears selected halfback Bob Fenimore. The only other No. 1 overall pick in Bears history was Tom Harmon in 1941. (NBC Chicago)
