FBI Offers Reward for Oak Lawn Man in Teen's 2009 Murder

Information leading to arrest of reputed gang member Luis Macedo, 28, is believed to have fled the Chicago area, will net someone $5,000.

CHICAGO, IL -- The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of a reputed Oak Lawn gang member charged in connection to the brutal gang slaying of a 15-year-old South Side boy in 2009.

Luis Macedo, 28, whose last known address is the 6200 block of West 90th Place in Oak Lawn, has been the subject of a nationwide manhunt since 2010 after he was charged in a federal criminal complaint with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Chicago police believe that Macedo was the ringleader in the May 1, 2009 attack of 15-year-old Alex Arellano, who was brutally beaten, shot and then set on fire by several Latin King street gang members. Macedo was never arrested for the alleged attack. On July 21, 2009, he was charged with one count of first-degree murder in Cook County Circuit Court.

The FBI says that Macedo has not been seen in the Chicago area since the alleged attack and is believed to be on the run. In addition to his ties in the Chicago area, Macedo is believed to have relatives and friends in Florida.

He is described as a 28-year-old Hispanic male with a slight build, standing 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighing 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Aliases he has been known to use include “Ye-Ye,” Luis Macebo, Luis M. Macedo, Louis Macedo, Louis M. Macedo, Luis M. Maczdo and Luis M. Mercado.

Macedo also has several unique tattoos on his body, including a tattoo of a crown on the left side of his neck, the words “so many” tattooed on the back of his neck, a five-point crown with the number 187 and an upside down pitchfork on his right forearm, “86--05 R.I.P.” cross with wings on the top of his left hand, and the word “Amor” with “Crown” tattooed on the top of his right hand.

Macedo has used the alternate birth dates of March 2, 1988 and Feb. 3, 1988. The FBI says Macedo should be considered armed and dangerous.

The search for Macedo is being coordinated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which is composed of FBI special agents, detectives from the Chicago Police Department, and investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police.
