Man Dead, Woman Hurt In Shooting At Oakbrook Center: Police

OAK BROOK, IL — A man is dead and a woman was wounded after a confrontation between two groups of people ended in gunfire outside Oakbrook Center, police said in an update Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the confrontation began at around 12:30 p.m. when two vehicles carrying a total of five people parked near each other in the parking lot. An altercation ensued, with at least one person opening fire.

Earlier, police confirmed the shooting, saying everyone involved was in custody or accounted for and there was no immediate threat.

A man was shot and killed, and a woman was taken to an area hospital with injuries. DuPage County Coroner Judith Lukas said an autopsy on the man is scheduled for Thursday. She did not release the man's identity.

The shopping center remained open after the shooting, with a heavy police presence at the mall and in the surrounding area.

The department first announced the shooting at 12:40 p.m., describing it as an isolated incident and saying there was no active threat. The investigation remained ongoing.
