Rain, Thunderstorms and Cooler Temps Expected This Weekend

Rain, thunderstorms and cooler temperatures are in the forecast for this weekend in the Chicago area.

Intermittent showers are expected across the Chicago area on Friday, and a thunderstorm or two are also possible today. The bulk of those storms are expected to hit east central Illinois and move northwest to Indiana south of Interstate 80, according to the National Weather Service.

More rain showers are expected Friday night and Saturday. Thunderstorm chances will also increase in the Chicago area on Saturday as an upper-level, low- pressure system lifts northward toward the area, according to weather officials.

Conditions will start to dry out for a few days starting on Sunday.

Otherwise, expect cool temperatures, in the 60s, to continue Friday and Saturday. Those temperatures could warm slightly on Sunday, reaching into the upper 60s.

Expect temperatures to climb a bit more and reach into the 70s for the start of the workweek.

• Friday: Cloudy. Intermittent showers. Highs in the mid 60s. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
• Friday Night: Numerous showers. Lows in the upper 50s. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
• Saturday: Numerous showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 60s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 60 percent.
• Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the evening...then a slight chance of light showers after midnight. Lows in the mid 50s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
• Sunday: Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of light showers in the morning. Highs in the upper 60s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 50s.
• Monday: Partly cloudy. Highs around 70.
