The 38-year-old officer was killed and a second officer, 57, was critically injured in the shooting at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital.

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago police officer who was shot and killed Saturday morning at Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital was identified as 38-year-old John Bartholomew, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Bartholomew had been with the Chicago Police Department for 10 years, according to ABC Chicago.
Chicago police said a second officer remained in critical condition as of late Saturday. Citing police sources, multiple media outlets said the wounded officer is a 57-year-old veteran officer of more than two decades.

The shooter fled but was later apprehended and was again in custody, officials said on Saturday. A weapon was recovered. Police have not said how he obtained the gun and have not yet released the suspect's identity or charges in connection to the killing.
In a department-wide message to police obtained by the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said the suspect had been in custody for an unrelated robbery when the shooting occurred around 10:50 a.m. Saturday.
Swedish Hospital was locked down and closed following the shooting but said it had reopened as of around 5 p.m. Saturday.
"Our officers stand in the way of harm every single day, risking their lives, and they have families who expect them to come home," Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said. "Tragically, one of our officers will not be returning home, and another is currently fighting for their life. This is a heartbreaking loss for our city."
Gov. JB Pritzker also reacted to the violence, saying in a statement, "Illinois mourns the loss of an officer who was shot and killed at Swedish Hospital. May their memory be a blessing, and may we come together to pray for the critically injured officer's recovery."
Just one day before the officers were shot, police said the CPD Honor Guard held their annual 24-hour vigil at Gold Star Memorial Park "in honor of our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice." Snelling visited the vigil, laying a wreath in remembrance of fallen officers, the department said.
