Steppenwolf Theatre Presents Brian d’Arcy James

Steppenwolf Theatre Company and Mark Cortale are pleased to present two lively musical performances with five-time Tony Award nominee and Northwestern alum Brian d'Arcy James with Music Director Dan Lipton on Saturday, December 7, 2024 (3 pm & 7:30 pm) in Steppenwolf’s Downstairs Theater, 1650 N. James will perform songs from the classic American songbook, pop favorites and of course the Broadway canon, including signature songs he originated from shows such as Hamilton, Shrek the Musical, Wild Party and Days of Wine and Roses, to name a few. Not only will this Broadway vet perform the music you know and love, but you’ll also learn what these songs mean to him in an intimate and personal evening of story and song.

About the Artist

Brian d’Arcy James just recently finished his Broadway run as Joe Clay in Days of Wine and Roses in March 2024. He can most recently be seen in the Netflix Film Pain Hustlers opposite Emily Blunt and Chris Evans; in the feature film She Came To Me, opposite Anne Hathaway, Peter Dinklage and Marissa Tomei; in the David E. Kelly miniseries Love and Death, opposite Elizabeth Olsen; and in Jason Katim’s Fugue, opposite Connie Britton for Apple TV+. Brian can be seen in a large recurring arc on Evil on Paramount +, in The Comey Rule on Showtime and in Devs on Hulu. He was Officer Krupke in the Oscar-nominated West Side Story, directed by Steven Spielberg, and co-starred in The Kitchen opposite Melissa McCarthy. Other film credits include First Man, Molly's Game and Spotlight, for which he won a SAG Award. Brian has starred in fifteen shows on Broadway, including Into the Woods and The Ferryman, and has been nominated for five Tony Awards. He originated the role of “King George” in Hamilton.

Mark Cortale is currently lead producing Table 17 by Douglas Lyons starring Tony Award Winner Kara Young that opens Off-Broadway at MCC on September 6, as well as the Broadway musical Floyd Collins by Adam Guettel and Tina Landau that opens at Lincoln Center Theater on April 21, 2025 at The Beaumont. Last season Mark produced the critically acclaimed three-time Tony nominated new musical Days of Wine and Roses starring Kelli O’Hara and Brian d’Arcy James, with music and lyrics by Adam Guettel, book by Craig Lucas and directed by Michael Greif. He also produced the Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel nominated Off-Broadway musical Midnight at the Never Get by Mark Sonnenblick in 2018. He recently celebrated his twelfth and final season as Producing Artistic Director of The Art House in Provincetown where he presented artists that included Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Jessie Mueller, Christine Ebersole and Megan Mullally. Mark is the Producing Artistic Director of the developmental theatre lab New Works Provincetown which he founded in 2020. In conjunction with producing partners Jonathan Murray and Harvey Reese, he has commissioned five works to date including the following shows currently in development: Maiden Voyagewith book and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein and music by Carmel Dean, Beautiful Little Fool with book by Mona Mansour and music and lyrics by Hannah Corneau, Love is Strange, with book by Craig Lucas, music by Daniel Messé and lyrics by Nathan Tysen & Daniel Messé and Table 17 by Douglas Lyons.
