Stormy Saturday With Torrential Downpours in Forecast for Chicago Area

There is less of a chance for storms on Sunday. Temperatures will be in the 80s.

The Chicago area could be in for a day full of thunderstorms and showers on Saturday with torrential rainfall and some flooding possible. Sunday is expected to be mostly clear, but there is still a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms.

The chance for thunderstorms will increase after midnight on Friday for areas west of Interstate 39 and then showers and thunderstorms are likely area-wide during the day on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The showers are expected to wind down across the region by late Saturday evening or later in the night.

As for the rest of the day Friday, temperatures should reach a high around 80. The day should be free of storms and rain. Temperatures should reach highs in the 80s on Saturday and Sunday as well.

Expect more wet weather as the work week gets underway next week. The region is expected to be under a moist and unstable air mass and storms are expected on Monday and Tuesday.

  • FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Highs around 80. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph in the morning becoming east in the afternoon.
  • FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the upper 60s. East winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • SATURDAY: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs in the lower 80s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph in the morning becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
  • SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows around 70. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • SUNDAY: Partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 80s inland...but only around 80 near the lake. Southwest winds around 5 mph in the morning shifting to the southeast in the afternoon.
  • SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the upper 60s.
  • MONDAY: Partly sunny. A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s.
  • MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the upper 60s.
  • TUESDAY: Partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 80s.
