Summer-Like Temps and Strong Storms in Forecast This Week

Here is a look at the weather forecast for the week ahead for the Chicago area.

The heat isn’t going anywhere soon.

Warmer-than-average weather is expected to stick this week with temps reaching a high near 87 degrees on Monday and 83 degrees on Tuesday. Temps in the lower- and mid-80s will continue through the week, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a chance that a few strong to severe thunderstorms could develop Monday evening, especially over northern Illinois, according to weather officials. There is also a chance for showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and another chance for rain and storms on Thursday night.

Here is more detailed look at this week’s forecast for the Chicago area:

  • Sunday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the lower 80s inland...upper 70s closer to the lakeshore. Northwest winds around 5 mph late in the morning shifting to the southwest in the afternoon.
  • Tonight: Clear. Lows around 60 in the suburbs...but in the mid 60s downtown. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny. Warm and more humid. Highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.
  • Monday Night: Partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the mid 60s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph in the evening shifting to the northwest after midnight.
  • Tuesday: Sunny. Highs in the lower 80s inland...but only in the upper 70s near the lake. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.
  • Tuesday Night: Mostly clear. Lows around 60 in the suburbs... But in the mid 60s downtown.
  • Wednesday: Partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 80s.
  • Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 60s.
  • Thursday: Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 80s.
  • Thursday Night: Partly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the upper 60s.
  • Friday Through Saturday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 80s. Lows in the mid 60s.
