Suspect In Custody After Shooting in Evanston Home: Police

Police are investigating the first shooting of the year in Evanston less than 19 hours into 2020.

EVANSTON, IL — A man was taken to an area hospital after he was shot in an Evanston home on New Year's Day, police said.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Evanston police and fire personnel were dispatched to the 1000 block of Darrow Avenue for a report that someone had been shot, according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew.

Officers took one person into custody and found a gun. No further information was immediately available for release Tuesday evening, but there was no danger to the public, Glew said.

The man who had been shot was alert as an Evanston Fire Department ambulance took him from the home, Glew said in a tweet from the scene.

Last year in Evanston, at least eight people were shot, one fatally, according to past reports.
