Thousands Demand Justice For George Floyd In Uptown
Thousands of people shut down Broadway in Uptown on Monday, protesting against the killing of black citizens by police.
CHICAGO, IL — Thousands of people demonstrated Monday evening on Chicago’s North Side, protesting against the killing of black citizens by police as they marched through Lakeview before converging in Uptown. A portion of Broadway near the Wilson Red Line stop was shut down for hours as protesters knelt and sat in the street while listening to community leaders and organizers speak.
Dozens of Chicago officers blocked off nearby roads as multiple police helicopters circled overhead. The group started to move west through Chicago along Wilson Avenue at about 7:30 p.m., while other protesters marched toward Lake Shore Drive.
The protest has remained peaceful throughout the day and looks set to continue past the city’s 9 p.m. curfew. Many on social media have praised the group for peacefully demonstrating Monday after days of unrest throughout the city.
