Tyshawn Lee's Father Charged With Shooting Three People

The father of slain 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee has been identified as the shooter who fired at several people on March 8, police said.

Pierre Stokes, 25, was charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery with discharge of a firearm, one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and possession/use of a firearm.

Officers responded to a battery in progress call in the 7900 block of South Ashland Avenue around 5:40 p.m. last Tuesday.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the left forearm, and 30-year-old man who was wounded in the right arm. Both men were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where they they were treated and released.

A 29-year-old woman also suffered a graze wound to her face, but refused medical assistance, according to Chicago Police News Affairs.

The wounded woman was identified as the girlfriend of Corey Morgan, who has also been charged in the brutal slaying of the fourth-grader last November, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Stokes was later identified as the alleged shooter and was arrested on March 11.

The shooting happened the same day that first-degree murder charges were announced again Doty, who was identified by police as the “executioner” of the 9-year-old South Side boy. Police believe Tyshawn was targeted due to his father’s high ranking in the Gangster Disciples. Stokes has repeatedly denied that he is a gang member.

Police said Doty’s original plan was to kidnap and torture the boy by cutting off his fingers and ears. Instead, Doty is accused shooting and killing Tyshawn until “Shorty couldn’t take it no more.”

In the days following the Tyshawn’s death, his father, Stokes, peddled t-shirts with his son’s likeness to help pay for his share of the boy’s funeral costs.
