1) Jury awards CPD whistleblower nearly $1 million. A Cook County jury has awarded CPD Sgt. Isaac Lambert $910,000. Lambert claimed he was "dumped" from his job as a detective supervisor on the South Side for pushing back when superiors pressed him to alter reports to cover for off-duty Sgt. Khalil Muhammad, who shot an unarmed teenager with autism in 2017.

2) NBA renames MVP trophy after former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan. The NBA announced yesterday that its MVP trophy has been redesigned and renamed "The Michael Jordan Trophy." It will stand 23.6 inches tall and weigh 23.6 pounds — nods to Jordan's jersey number and six NBA titles with the Bulls — but will not be a depiction of the basketball legend.

3) Man giving tents to people without homes said city will no longer threaten removal. Pilsen resident Andy Robledo, who has passed out 140 ice fishing tents to people experiencing homelessness in Chicago, said the city won't remove them. His efforts first made headlines in October, when city officials placed removal tags on tents in the West Loop.

4) Chicago police announce charges in Portage Park mass shooting. Samuel Parsons-Salas, 32, has been charged in the mass shooting outside Vera Lounge early Sunday that left three people dead, and one critically injured. He faces three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of kidnapping.

5) United to add 2,600 jobs in Chicago as part of plan to replace its aging fleet. United announced yesterday it will buy 100 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners for international flights and some Boeing 737 Max airplanes for domestic flights. The Chicago-based airline company is looking to improve fuel efficiency, expand international service and replace aging aircraft over the next decade, as well as add thousands of jobs in the Chicago area next year.
