GoFundMe Made For Family Of Lake Michigan Boat Accident Victim
According to authorities, a Waukegan man accused in the accident has been arrested.
CHICAGO, IL — A Waukegan man has been arrested following a Thursday boating accident in Lake Michigan that killed a Vernon Hills woman and sent two others to the hospital, according to authorities. According to reports, 28-year-old Pedro Ocote-Matus was arrested by Illinois conservation police officers for operation of a watercraft while under the influence. According to the Daily Herald, authorities reported 27-year-old Jessica Ceja, of Vernon Hills, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago after the powerboat she was on hit a jetty south of the Fullerton Avenue Beach area on the North Side of Chicago.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ceja's family by friend Melissa Haworth, in an effort to raise $12,000 to help cover Ceja's funeral and memorial expenses.
Illinois Department of Natural Resources spokesman Tim Schweizer told the newspaper two other passengers on the boat, Christina Bucio, 30, of Vernon Hills, and Pedro Alberto Ocote-Matus, 28, of Waukegan, were listed in good condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
