Chicago Weather Forecast: Up to 7 Inches of Snow Expected

The winter storm began Sunday evening with heavy snow possible for the Monday morning commute.

It could be a rough Monday morning commute for many in the Chicago area as a winter storm is expected to hit and bring up to seven inches of snow.

The snow is supposed to start in the Rockford area by mid-evening on Sunday and then spread to the Chicago metro area later that evening. The snowfall will continue overnight and into the morning commute hours with 4 to 7 inches expected before the storm wraps up Monday evening for McHenry, Kendall, Kane, DeKalb and Will counties. Between 3 to 6 inches of snow is expected for Cook, DuPage and Lake counties.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for Lake, Cook and DuPage counties from 1 a.m. Monday through 1 a.m. Tuesday. The winter weather advisory will be in effect for McHenry, Kane, Kendall DeKalb and Will counties from 10 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday.

The highest snowfall rates are expected to occur overnight and into Monday morning before snow rates ease through the day. More lake effect snow is possible Monday night into Tuesday for northeast Illinois.

Visibility will be reduced during the heavier snowfall. Drivers should plan on difficult driving conditions.
