Top 5 stories in Chicago:

1) Thieves rob, assault victims during string of armed robberies throughout city over weekend. Chicago police are issuing a warning to people across the city about a string of armed robberies that occurred this past weekend. Suspects approached victims on the sidewalk and demanded their property by threatening the use of force while displaying handguns.

2) US Coast Guard delivers annual shipload of Christmas trees at Navy Pier. The 1,200 trees, which were harvested in Michigan, were unloaded by young volunteers and will soon be distributed by 16 social service agencies to local families who need assistance. A total of 28,000 trees have been donated as part of the Chicago Christmas Ship tradition since 2000.

3) Tracing the Black Panther footprint in Chicago. The non-profit Historical Preservation Society of the Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party is working to preserve and memorialize dozens of Black Panther sites throughout the city, such as free breakfast program distribution centers, medical clinics, headquarters, and more. The majority of Illinois Panther sites have been demolished or redeveloped and were never given any markers of historical recognition.

4) Holiday gifts for the incarcerated, a small gesture with a big impact: 'They need to know people care about them.' Congregants of the evangelical Willow Creek Community Church in the South Loop assembled a little more than 1,000 gift bags for incarcerated people yesterday. Each pack contains a Christmas card, treats and an "Armor Book" containing puzzles, art, poems, inspirational stories and devotionals.

5) Man's World Cup flag display helps neighbors keep track of who is left in tournament. Scott Fecho, 42, makes keeping up with your favorite team easy. He hung a national flag along his fence for each team competing in the World Cup, and removes them as teams lose and exit the tournament. Fecho launched the flag display shortly after moving to the 2100 block of Leland Avenue in Lincoln Park in 2010.
