CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Two Chicago Heights teens have been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after Cook County Sheriff's Police found the pair with loaded firearms, including one that was reported stolen from Indiana, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said Sunday. The sheriff's office says their police responded to the 1300 block of East Lincoln Highway at 11:10 p.m. Saturday for a report of people with handguns, where officers took a 17-year-old male from South Chicago Heights, and 19-year-old Deamonte Hurst (pictured) of Chicago Heights into custody. According to officials, the two males tried to run after police discovered they matched the description of those seen with guns, before they were subdued by officers.
According to a release, a 9 millimeter loaded Taurus gun fell from the waistband of Hurst as he was being subdued. That gun was reported stolen from Gary, Ind. Police say Hurst has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen firearm, and his bond was set at $15,000 (D) during his Sunday court appearance at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
Police say the other male, who is being left unnamed because he was charged as a juvenile with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, was found with a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson with an extended magazine in his waistband while police searched him. Police say he also has a warrant out for his arrest for attempted murder.
